The best renovation experiences aren't accidental. They're the result of a process that was designed to work. Over 35 years of building and installing custom cabinetry across Central Ohio, Lewis Designs has refined a four-step process built around transparency, collaboration, and the kind of craftsmanship that doesn't cut corners. Here's what you can expect from the moment you reach out until the day your project is complete.
1. The In-Home Consultation
Every Lewis Designs project begins in your home, not in a showroom. We visit your space to assess the architecture, lighting, layout, and existing finishes, because great design starts with genuinely understanding what you're working with. During the consultation, we discuss how you use the space, your design vision, and your project goals. We guide you through layout options, cabinetry styles, wood species, and finish selections. This conversation is complimentary and typically runs one to two hours. By the end, we have everything we need to develop your proposal.
2. Design, 3D Modeling, and Proposal
After the consultation, we develop a full 3D model of your cabinetry, detailed enough to show exactly how the finished product will look in your space. We then return to walk you through the complete design proposal, including clear pricing that covers design, manufacturing, and professional installation. No hidden fees, no surprises. If revisions are needed, we work through them until the design reflects exactly what you're looking for. Once you're satisfied, we finalize all selections and prepare for production.
3. Custom Manufacturing at Our Plain City Facility
With the design approved, manufacturing begins at Lewis Designs' Plain City shop. Every cabinet is built to order. No stock pulled from inventory. We build with plywood box construction, dovetail drawer joinery, and soft-close hardware as standard on every piece. While production is underway, we work with you to finalize any remaining selections: hardware finishes, door profiles, final color approvals. Production for a full kitchen typically runs eight to twelve weeks. Smaller projects run four to six weeks.
4. Professional Installation
Installation is handled by Lewis Designs' own trim carpenter team, not a subcontractor you're meeting for the first time on installation day. A full kitchen installation typically takes three days. Smaller projects run one to two days. We coordinate installation to align with your project schedule, whether we're serving as the general contractor on a full renovation or delivering cabinets to be integrated into a broader project managed by others. We don't consider the job finished until every detail is right.
What Makes the Process Work
The steps above are straightforward. What makes the process actually work is the detail within each step: the care in the in-home consultation, the accuracy of the 3D model, the quality of the manufacturing, and the precision of the installation. Each phase feeds into the next. Problems in design show up as problems in manufacturing; problems in manufacturing show up on installation day. The reason Lewis Designs has built its reputation over 35 years serving homeowners from Dublin to Delaware isn't the process, it's the standard of execution within it.
A Project You'll Be Satisfied With for Decades
Custom cabinetry is one of the longer-lasting investments in a home. The process that produces it should be one you feel confident in from the first conversation. Lewis Designs' track record across Central Ohio reflects what happens when that standard is maintained consistently, project after project.
