Plan Your Kitchen Remodel Before the Holidays

Lewis Designs Nov 4, 2025

Every year, homeowners in Dublin, Hilliard, and across the Columbus metro call in October or November asking whether a new kitchen can be finished in time for Thanksgiving. The honest answer is almost never yes, especially if the work involves custom cabinetry. The design, approval, and manufacturing process alone takes months. The homeowners who host Thanksgiving in their new kitchen are the ones who started the conversation the previous winter or spring.

1. The Timeline You're Actually Working With

Custom cabinetry for a full kitchen renovation typically takes eight to twelve weeks in production after the design is finalized and approved. Add four to six weeks for the design process itself, plus scheduling and installation, and you're looking at five to six months from first conversation to finished kitchen. Starting in November for a December completion isn't possible. Starting in June for a November completion is realistic, but just barely.

2. What "Starting Early" Actually Means

Starting early means scheduling the initial consultation before you've committed to anything. Lewis Designs' in-home consultations are complimentary, and they exist precisely to help homeowners understand what's involved before they've made any decisions. A February or March consultation gives you a full design cycle, comfortable production time, and installation well before the holiday season begins.

3. The Holiday Entertaining Problem

A kitchen renovation that runs through the fall puts you in a difficult position: either you delay the project and miss the window, or you push through and spend October and November cooking in a gutted kitchen. Neither is a good outcome. Planning around the holiday season means scheduling installation for late summer or early fall, which means starting the design process no later than spring.

4. Why Custom Lead Times Are Fixed

Custom cabinets are built to order. Unlike stock cabinets, which can be pulled from a warehouse, fully custom cabinetry has a production lead time that doesn't compress because of urgency. At Lewis Designs, every piece is manufactured at our Plain City facility, and the production schedule moves at the pace that quality requires. Rushing production is not something we offer, because it would compromise the product.

5. The Gift of a Kitchen That's Already Done

For Worthington and Westerville homeowners who love to entertain, the kitchen is the most-used room in the house from November through January. Having a finished, fully custom kitchen in place before that season starts, rather than mid-renovation during it, is a genuine quality-of-life difference. It's the kind of thing that pays dividends every Thanksgiving for the next twenty years.

Starting Now Is Already Preparing for Next Year

If you're reading this in November and realizing the timing has passed, the best move is to start the conversation now for next year. A late-fall consultation puts you ahead of the spring rush, gives you a full winter to finalize the design, and sets you up for an installation that clears the calendar well before the holidays arrive.
